My Walk For Life

October 19th, 2009 | Posted in From The Cook, losing weight, Low Calorie, video | 6 Comments

If you’ve been reading this blog for more than a month or so I’m sure that you’ve pretty much gathered that I’ve got some health problems. Not the least of which is the fact that at 330 pounds I’m seriously overweight. The fact that in the last year I’ve become diabetic only serves to complicate the matter of losing that excess weight.

As if it wasn’t difficult enough trying to lose large amounts of weight, anyone who’s spent any serious amount of time and effort trying to lose weight will tell you, it helps to have support at home. It gives both encouragement and someone that can hold you accountable for staying on track with your weight loss program.

While I do have family that lives in the area and they’re more than willing to be encouraging, the fact that none of them live with me kinda limits how effective that can be. i.e. there’s nobody here that will question my sudden craving for doughnuts at 1:30am, or remind me to do my time on the treadmill or exercise bike to burn off some of those calories that I so hate to count even though I really need to.

Therefore I’ve decided to use video to help myself. I’m going to be making at least one, possibly two or more of these videos every week that will be added to the “My Walk For Life” playlist on the Tinfoilchefdotcom YouTube Channel. They’ll at least *start* while I’m either on the treadmill or stationary bike and go from there. In them I’ll talk about my progress, difficulties, failures, temptations, Etc.

I don’t have a scale right now so until I get one weigh-in’s won’t be part of the videos.

I’m also hoping that if I, at 50 years old, diabetic, and way overweight can show some progress losing that weight and hopefully keeping it off that perhaps I’ll be able to encourage or inspire others that need to lose weight to get about the business of doing so.

I said this in the video but I’ll repeat it here just to be clear. I am NOT and will not at any time or in any way be giving any form of medical advise other than to say consult with your own doctor before beginning any kind of intense diet and exercise program. The more overwieght you are, the older you are, and the more health complications that you have, the more important it is to check with your doctor before getting started. Losing weight is important, doing it safely and staying alive to enjoy the benefits is even more important.

On a final note I’m sure that there’s at least some that are wondering why I’m putting this on a blog that’s about food, recipes and such. Well, that’s easy. Those things helped get me IN to this trouble, they’re going to help me get OUT of it as well.

    1. I really understand and can relate to your struggles. Last year I began a journey for my own better health and lost close to 100 pounds. I still have a little ways to go before I reach my goal, but it is one of the best choices I’ve ever made. I had not developed diabetes, but I’m sure it was just around the corner since it’s in my family, along with heart disease.

You can do it. The journey won’t always be an easy one, but you can do it. Finding people to help support your efforts and who understand what you’re going through can be so helpful.

I don’t know if you are familiar with it or not, but something that really helped me (and that’s free) was sparkpeople.com. It’s full of so many recources to help a person get healthier and lose weight. I haven’t spent much time there myself lately, but know that I should, because it really does help to encourage and inspire.

Good luck with your journey! You can do it!

    2. I think the main reason that I started Vlogging about it is both because of not having a whole lot of in-home accountability.. I also figure that it’s possible that I might inspire or encourage others to keep at their efforts to lose weight.

I’ll check out that site over the next day or three.

    3. I just wrote a great, long review for this book and tragically, in the editing process it suddenly disappeared from my screen!!! So here’s the short version: The book is VERY helpful. Get it. I just did the cleanse. It’s GREAT. You can do it, too! One tip that’s not in the book: for the sake of your tooth enamel, rinse your teeth after drinking the lemonade. Want to feel and look better fast? Do yourself a favor and give this book and cleanse a try.

    4. This book is what I consider the Master Cleanse “Bible.” Since I did the M.C. I have had over 10 friends do it as well! If they don’t have the book, I let them borrow mine and my citrus juicer.

Not only did I loose 10lbs, but I feel amazing! I am eating 90% raw and 99% vegetarian. My husband feels better becuase we have completely changed our lifestyle, all becuase I did the Master Cleanse with Peter’s book. I originally got into it because I was a new teacher and always sick, I knew there had to be a healthy way to stay HEALTHY!!! And I stummbled upon the M.C. and Peter’s book.

I would read and reread it every night while I was taking a bath during the cleanse. It answered so many questions. I would never leave home and travel to a different state without a map and I would never do the M.C. again without this book. I am planning on doing the M.C. 2 a year and am sooooo excited how it changed my life!

    5. that’s great and all but it might be helpful if you’d said what book you were talking about

    6. another one talking about a book without bothering to mention the title of it. not exactly helpful
