Revisiting Hard Boiled Eggs In the Microwave

A little over a year ago I wrote a post in response to the question “Can you hard boil eggs in the microwave“. My answer at the time was essentially “Yes, if you have a microwave safe container to cook them in.”.

Since then that post has consistently ranked pretty high in searches and even over a year later There’s still a considerable number of searches for phrases related to hard boiling eggs in the microwave oven. Given this considerable and constant interest in the fate of hard boiled eggs in microwave ovens I decided that this would be a good subject to tackle in the first video I’ve done for this blog in way too long.

The first thing you’ll see is what happens when you take a fresh raw egg and try to cook it in the microwave without cracking it first. Then I demonstrate the use of a handy little kitchen gadget that my wife found a few years ago for cooking hard boiled eggs in the microwave oven.

As I’m sure you know not all microwave ovens are created equal. Where I used a minute and a half with perfect success, your oven may require more or less time. Once you’ve got the time figured out you’re all set for all the microwave hard boiled eggs you want.
