Classic Tiramisu Recipe
September 3rd, 2009 | Posted in Desserts, Food fun, From The Cook, Italian recipes, Recipies, Treats | Comments OffI first heard of Tiramisu when I watched “Sleepless in Seattle”. Remember when Sam is talking with his friend about getting back into the dating scene and the guy, pretty much out of the blue says something about Tiramisu and Sam doesn’t know what it is. The rest of the exchange is pretty funny, especially once you find out that Tiramisu is an Italian dessert.
What is “tiramisu”?
You’ll find out.
Well, what is it?
You’ll see!
Some woman is gonna want me to do it to her and I’m not gonna know what it is!
(Now I’m gonna have to get that movie out and watch it again)
Start by combining 6 egg yolks and 1 1/4 cups of white sugar in the top of a double boiler over boiling water. Reduce the heat to low and cook for about 10 minutes while stirring occasionally. Then remove it from the heat and whip until the eggs are thick and lemon yellow.
Add 1 1/4 cups of mascarpone cheese to the whipped yolks and beat until it’s combined. In a separate bowl, whip 1 3/4 cups of heavy cream to stiff peaks. Gently fold the cream into the yolk mixture and set it aside.
Open up 2 12oz packages of lady fingers and split the lady fingers in half, using them to line the bottom and sides of a large glass bowl. Then brush them with a coffee liqueur.
Spoon half of the cream filling over the lady fingers. Add another layer of ladyfingers and the coffee liqueur and the filling. Garnish with a teaspoon of unsweetened cocoa powder and some chocolate curls (easily made by using a vegetable peeler on the semisweet chocolate).
Refrigerate for several hours or overnight.
