Hamburger Soup

Here’s something that’s inexpensive to make and just great for warming up when you come in out of a cold spring rain.

Brown up a pound of ground beef (ground turkey works great here too) and drain the fat.

Add five cups of water (or if you have it, beef broth will give more flavor), a can of diced tomatoes, a chopped medium onion, a couple of sliced carrots, a couple stalks of celery sliced up, a quarter cup of catsup, 1/3 cup of barley, two beef bouillon cubes, two teaspoons of seasoned salt, a teaspoon of basil and one bay leaf.

Simmer for an hour or until the barley and vegetables are tender.

1 pound of hamburger (or ground turkey!!)
5 cups of water (or beef broth)
1 16 oz can of diced tomatoes
1 chopped medium onion
2 sliced carrots (about 1 cup)
2 sliced stalks of celery (about 1 cup)
1/3 cup of barley
1/4 cup of catsup
2 beef bouillon cubes
2 teaspoon of seasoned salt
1 teaspoon of basil
1 bay leaf
