Irish Coffee For St. Patricks Day
March 17th, 2009 | Posted in coffee, Drinks, From The Cook, Holiday, Recipies, Treats | Comments OffIn Chicago they’re coloring the river green. Somewhere else they’re holding a corned beef on rye sandwich eating contest. People are talking about leprechauns, pots of gold and the luck of the Irish. People everywhere are suddenly obsessed with four leaf clovers and they’re making certain to wear something green lest they be pinched for their failure.
Obviously, it must be St. Patrick’s day. Now personally I don’t see a need for most of that. I don’t believe in leprechauns OR luck and I’m not going to make any effort to wear something green. If you pinch me I’ll bite you (or worse, depending on how many times I get pinched.)
However I DO believe in a good cup of coffee, so let’s dispense with the nonsense and get down to business.
Brew up a pot of black coffee (about 10 cups or so). Use a good Arabica for the best flavor. Add a couple tablespoons of sugar and a cup of Irish whiskey.
Then take a cup of heavy whipping cream and a couple tablespoons of sugar and whip it until peaks form.
Pour the coffee into whatever cup or mug you’re using and top with the whipped cream. You can use the stuff that comes in a spray can if you like, but it’s better with the fresh made variety and it doesn’t take that much effort to make.
Note: You’ll want to wait on doing this until you’re far enough into your day that you’re not going to be driving anymore because the Whiskey will make you “under the influence” and not legal to drive.
