Ketchup or Catsup?

One of the most popular condiments in fast food as well as the home is ketchup (or is it catsup?) This wonder created from tomatoes, vinegar and some spices is something that most people want to have around when it’s time to make a burger. It’s also just as popular on hot dogs and frequently used as part of the coating on a meat loaf that’s there both for the flavor and to keep it from drying out during cooking.

At one time or anther I’ve used it on a LOT of things in addition to the traditional uses to which it gets put. In fact, when I was a kid, I used it on so many things that my father used to tease me saying that he wouldn’t be surprised to see me put catsup (or is it ketchup?) on Cherrios. (I never did, even I have limits)

The last thing I’m going to say about it is the fact that it’s the only popular condiment I know of that the name has two distinctly different spellings that are used with about the same frequency and are to the best of my knowledge pronounced the same.

How do you spell it? Ketchup or Catsup?
