If It’s Movie Time It Must Mean Popcorn

Something we like to do around here is every once in a while take a day and / or a night and watch several movies and just take it easy. Recently we took the time out to watch all three “Lord Of The Rings” movies. (yeah, I know, purists will point out all the ways that the movies fell short of the books and I don’t disagree, however taken by themselves, they’re pretty good just the same. Although some evidently very rare movie posters I saw a long time ago promoted an animated version of the story. I’m going to have to look that up someday.)

Well, With the start of a movie marathon there is always taking time to get out the popcorn. I’ll be honest here, when it comes to popcorn I’m kinda lazy. I’m almost always ready to get out the microwave popcorn, toss it in the micro and two and a half minutes later one bag of popcorn is ready to go. Once in a while we’ll do the make it fresh yourself variety but mostly it’s the microwave stuff.

Our big thing is in how you top it. My wife likes to spray on some of that “I can’t believe it’s not butter” spray and once in a while she’ll use some Parmesan cheese. I on the other hand, have been known to do all sorts of things. One of my favorites is to sprinkle on some Dill weed. Another is curry powder or chili powder. Another one is celery seed or garlic powder.

I’ve discovered that most spices, if they’re something I like, are generally interesting when used on popcorn. The idea is to try different things, using the spices and condiments that you like on popcorn for the movie. (tip: try a little bit on a few kernels before committing yourself to a whole bowl full.)
