Paint Booth Burritos

Recently my brother reminded me of something cool that we did with food. A bunch of years ago we were both working in a factory that made the vinyl “skin” of car dashboards. Our job was to operate a molding machine that made the part. Each part would be painted before going to the next step.

It didn’t take long for us to decide that we didn’t always want to bother with the long trip to the break room on the other side of the plant. Instead, we took advantage of the fact that the paint booths were heated to speed drying. We started getting frozen burritos at the store. We would then wrap them up in plastic or aluminum foil and set them on top of the outside of the paint booths when we got to work.

By the time lunch rolled around, not only had the burritos thawed, they had heated all the way through and were just the right temperature to eat.

Naturally anyone wanting to try something like this in their own work environment needs to make sure that paint, chemicals or Lord only knows what else doesn’t get into the food by wrapping in plastic or aluminum foil. It’s also a good idea to make sure your employer doesn’t mind you doing this. These days it’s entirely possible there’d be problems if the insurance carrier ever found out about it.
