Garlic Cheddar Popcorn Balls
July 16th, 2008 | Posted in Odds & Ends, Recipies, Snacks, Treats | Comments OffThis treat combines three great flavors into something that could easily become a favorite in it’s own right.
Start by peeling 50 cloves (that’s roughly four entire heads) of garlic and mince it with a couple teaspoons of salt to keep it from sticking and to absorb garlic juices. You could also use minced garlic from a jar. Just check the label for the measuring equivalence and press the juice out of it and then mix in the salt.
Then toss the minced garlic with four cups of shredded cheddar cheese.
Get out the largest microwave safe glass or plastic bowl that will fit in the microwave and make alternating layers of popcorn and the garlic & cheese mixture. Make sure to coat the popcorn as evenly as possible, especially at the edge of the bowl.
Cook it for one minute on high and then shake the bowl gently and turn it 180 degrees (unless your micro has the automatic turntable) and cook it for one more minute. Be careful not to overcook.
When it’s done, turn the heated mixture onto a cookie sheet and quickly shape it into plum-size balls. Set the popcorn balls on waxed paper to cool.
This ought to make about 4 dozen popcorn balls.
